Circle Gets the Squares

One night a week, five distinct individuals in this small Vermont town come together to bare their souls to one another. No, it's not a group therapy session -- well, not intentionally. Welcome to Marty's community drama class, where the teacher is a slightly loopy bohemian who wants her pupils to be a baseball glove, perform a scene in gibberish and write down their most guarded secrets so they can be read aloud anonymously. Is there a method to her madness, or is it simply the madness of Method? Annie Baker's Circle Mirror Transformation lets you audit the class from the safety of the audience, so all those awkward revelations are more comic than traumatic -- well, most of the time. The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis opens its Studio Season with Circle Mirror Transformation at 8 p.m. Thursday, October 27 in the Emerson Studio Theatre in the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road; 314-968-4925 or www.repstl.org). The show is performed every day except Monday through Sunday, November 13. Tickets are $45 to $58.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 27. Continues through Nov. 13, 2011
