Classical Rocks

Mar 28, 2007 at 4:00 am
Classical guitarists are the true rock stars. These amazing musicians charm the strings of their instruments with an amazing fluidity of motion, so that it seems as if a thousand fingers are relentlessly plucking and strumming. The classical guitarist doesn't need the distortion of an amp — his pure music is strong on its own. To hear the guitar as it was designed to sound, head to the Ethical Society of St. Louis (9001 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights) at 8 p.m. for a concert by the award-winning Carlos Pérez. This Chilean classical guitarist is here courtesy of the Saint Louis Classical Guitar Society, and he brings with him a program of works from several composers plus traditional Chilean songs that he arranged, all of which seem to tell a story — or at least evoke emotion. Tickets for this night of beautiful music cost $16 to $18 and are available by calling 314-567-5566 or visiting www.guitarstlouis.net.
