The continent of Africa seems so unlike our little corner of the world, and exploring the landmass from tip to tip and experiencing it firsthand feels like the only way to truly understand it. However, the artistic endeavors of the continent's peoples can also offer remarkable insight into the Africans' ways of life and the values they hold dear — which aren't, of course, so very different from our own. The African Film Festival showcases films that are both eye- and heart-opening, films that will reveal Africa through its beholders. Held Thursday through Sunday (March 26 through 29), this film fest screens a shorter and a longer work per evening, including pieces from Ethiopia, Zaire and South Africa, and works that explore Africans' lives outside of Africa. The screenings begin at 7 p.m. each night in Room 100 in Brown Hall on Washington University's campus (Forsyth Boulevard and Chaplin Drive), and admission is free.
