Come Once, Leave Happy

When most people see something they feel is lacking in their community, they typically take up the topic at their next bitch-fest, and that's about as far as it goes. Good thing the curators behind Drawgasmic, a one-night art exhibit and book, aren't inactive complainers — they're the kinds of folks who are motivated to make a change and make something happen. And tonight, we get to enjoy their hard work! At 2720/Art Dimensions Gallery (2720 Cherokee Street; 314-773-4499 or www.drawgasmic.com), letter-paper-size works by 1,000 artists from all over the world have been collected by the Drawgasmic curators, and these pieces will be on display and for sale from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. You'll have a chance to buy these original artworks on the spot — styles range from comic-book ready drawings to the very abstract — or you can take them all home, via the limited-edition, Cranky Yellow-published book. In addition to the massive amounts of art lining the walls of the space, the Drawgasmic organizers have planned even more to entertain you, including live art, bands and a St. Louis Craft Mafia sale. All of these good times come to you for free (so you'll have more cash to buy art), and the fun furthers the Drawgasmic efforts to promote independent artists and their work. How nice!
