Con of the Dead

Look, you're either the type of person who's instantly fired up by the name Tom Savini or you're not. If you understand the importance of Savini's special effects for George Romero's zombie classics, or his work in Maniac, or for Friday the 13th — the list goes on for a while — you want to be at the first Con-tamination, the convention celebrating the best in horror, sci-fi and pop culture. Savini is scheduled to appear as a celebrity guest, as are a slew of people from Day of the Dead (Gary Klar, Anthony Dileo, Lori Cardille, Mark Tierno, to name a few), Fred "the Hammer" Williamson, porn star Seka, Dee Wallace, the Soup Nazi, and many more. There are also the usual con staples — vendors, a dealers' room, authors and artists selling work — and musical performances by St. Louis' metal war machine Harkonin and gothic punk band the Revenants. Con-tamination takes place Friday through Sunday (April 30 through May 2) at the Holiday Inn Southwest Viking Conference Center (10709 Watson Road; Admission is $15 to $20 per day, or $45 for the weekend pass. Please note that all celebrity guests will charge for autographs, and they may cancel at the last minute or later for work reasons.
