Bicycle enthusiasts often come across as pushy advocates for their chosen method of transportation, which annoys non-cyclists to no end. But the bikies only do it because cycling makes them feel so much better — physically and mentally — that they want to share the good news. Heck, one of the writers at this very paper cycles in to work every day, and it's greatly enhanced his psychological well-being as well as his physique — lookin' good, C-Gar, raawwwrrr! Tonight at Artcrank STL, cyclists advocate the two-wheeled lifestyle through quieter means — their art. Thirty-four local artists have created bicycle-themed posters that tout the health, ecological and fun-time benefits of biking. Artcrank STL opens with a free public reception at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Atomic Cowboy (4140 Manchester Avenue; www.artcrank.com) that also serves as the kickoff of this year's Tour de Grove. The work remains up through Saturday, May 14. Admission is free, and all posters are bargain priced at $30 each — that's just about seven gallons of gas, you know.
