Cycle of Giving

If it's November already, it's coming up on more than just Thanksgiving; it's also time for another, slightly newer, holiday tradition: Cranksgiving. This year marks the ninth annual go-round for the family drive and ride, the proceeds benefitting Food Outreach and its vital mission. To participate, show up with a bicycle, a helmet and a lock, and be ready to pedal your choice of planned routes, which run from five miles up to 25 miles in length contingent on your fitness level. Along the way you're asked to spend $15 to $20 on groceries which will then be donated to Food Outreach (bringing a backpack: good idea). The event is free and open to the public, and it starts at 9 a.m. with registration in the parking lot of Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood); the ride itself commences from the lot at 10 a.m. For more information call the event sponsor, St. Louis BWorks, at 314-827-6640 or visit www.bworks.org.
