Daddy of the Dynasty

History is quicker to vilify Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. for his crimes and prejudices than praise him for founding one of America's most famous and influential families. But then, for the Kennedy family, all press is good press. Historian David Nasaw is no stranger to exploring the lives of brilliant and complex historical figures -- his first two biographies tackled Andrew Carnegie and William Randolph Hearst -- and his latest work, The Patriarch: The Remarkable Life and Turbulent Times of Joseph P. Kennedy, chronicles the life and many careers of the Kennedy clan's progenitor. Tonight at 7 p.m., Nasaw discusses and signs copies of his study of Kennedy at the St. Louis County Library Headquarters (1640 South Lindbergh Boulevard, Frontenac; 314-994-3300 or www.slcl.org) as part of the St. Louis County Library Foundation's Buzz Westfall Author Series. Admission is free.
