Every pursuit benefits from the addition of new ideas and new blood, so to speak. Businesses are refreshed by the exuberance of youth, just as the arts are similarly invigorated by the power of youthful forward-thinking and innovative conceptualizing.
The Sum of Motion Dance Collaborative, the University of Missouri-St. Louis' spring dance concert, promises to be an awesome showcase of both the new and established. UMSL students Arica Brown and Jessica Cross choreographed pieces for the performance, as did UMSL assistant professor of dance Rob Scoggins. In addition to these works, respected St. Louis dancers Dawn Karlovsky and Alice Bloch contribute to the show alongside the Modern American Dance Company and the Encore Dance Company. To witness this "sum" of the current state of dance in our city, head over to the Lee Theater at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on UMSL's campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-4949 or
www.touhill.org).
The Sum of Motion Dance Collaborative happens at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (March 12 through 14), and tickets are $5 to $10.
