Dance the Rainbow

In The Wizard of Oz, original flavor, there's a fair amount of dancing and hopping about. But of course, we're all tuning in for Judy Garland's singing (or, if we're feeling '70s retro, the crooning from the fellows in Pink Floyd). With Ballet Memphis' stage version of the classic story, the dance company changes things up a bit, both in the quality and quantity of dance. This troupe piques and pirouettes all along the yellow brick road in the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Boulevard at Natural Bridge Road). Presented by Dance St. Louis, Wizard of Oz: Starring Ballet Memphis takes the stage at 8 p.m. on Friday, and at 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday (January 24 and 25). Tickets to the ballet cost $20 to $55; call 314-516-4949 or visit www.touhill.org to make a purchase. And, as always, watch out overhead for any airborne houses.
