Dance, Unequaled

With every dance concert she attends, Ms. Day lives a little vicarious dream. It's not that she's an awful dancer, it's just that she isn't overflowing with grace, with flexibility, with creativity, like those who focus their studies solely on the art form. Alas, you will see Day this weekend at the Sum of Motion concert at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road). She'll be the one in green, admiring the UMSL students and faculty onstage as they showcase the movements that move them -- and us. From ballet to modern and almost everything in between, these local talents perform with all they've got, alongside the Modern American Dance Company, and a small, shadowy figment of Day as well. Tickets to join Lady Day in the audience cost a very affordable $5 and are available through 314-516-4949 or www.touhill.org. Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (November 10 through 12).
