Halloween isn't just about filling your house with pumpkin decorations, lounging around in your sexy witch outfit and marathon-ing '80s slasher flicks. You need to get out of that gourd dungeon you've created and see, smell, touch and experience Halloween -- you need to take yourself to the Darkness Haunted House (1525 South Eighth Street; www.scarefest.com). Busting at the bricks, floorboards and shingles with all manner of ghastly ghouls, menacing monsters and creepy creepers, this house is more than just haunted -- it's downright devilish. Expect plenty of scary sights as you meander through the Darkness (and the darkness sometimes, too), including a fair number of zombies who have been rounded up and promised fresh brains, no doubt. Plus, you get to visit the Terror Visions 3-D Haunted House while you're there, as well as the Monster Museum. The Darkness is open every night through Saturday, November 1, as well as on Friday and Saturday (November 7 and 8); admission costs $25, and there's a speed-pass option for an additional $5.
Mondays-Sundays, 7:30 p.m.; Fri., Nov. 7, 7:30 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 8, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Oct. 6. Continues through Nov. 1, 2014
