Just last month, we wrote about how people in Victorian times mourned. Since their required grieving periods were so long, it may seem like all they did was mope around. Not so. Apparently, these sad saps were snappy holiday decorators as well. See an example of their happier handiwork at the Victorian Christmas at the Tower Grove House
in the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard). The home is done up in fashionable style with natural festoonery like pine roping and wreaths, and while you're admiring the décor, the docents will regale you with tales of Christmases of yore. Admission to the display costs $3, and the house is open every day (except Monday) from Tuesday, November 21, through Sunday, December 31. Call 314-577-9400 or visit www.mobot.org
for specific hours.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 21. Continues through Dec. 31
