Do It EarthWays

There's a lot of talk about sustainability right now, but recycling your wine bottles and milk jugs — or even driving a hybrid vehicle — may not be enough to save our planet. You know you should do more. But what? Well, St. Louis is fortunate to have a single place where people can go to find an answer to that question: the EarthWays Home in Grand Center (3617 Grandel Square; 314-577-0220 or www.earthwayscenter.org). This three-story structure houses kitchen appliances powered by solar energy, recycling and composting systems, on-demand water-heating, and more — and it's all topped off with a green roof, which saves both water and energy. To learn about these and other methods of conservation, drop by the house for a tour on Saturday or Sunday (February 17 or 18). The guided walkthroughs, which cost an economical $2, take place on the hour from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
