Mothers Day provides daughters and sons with many an opportunity to please and entertain mothers, but something more interesting than impersonal greeting cards requires mixing up the routine. Fortunately, St. Louis happens to have one of the worlds best open-air museums Laumeier Sculpture Park (12580 Rott Road, Sunset Hills; 314-821-1209 or
www.laumeier.org). And for all you lucky sons and daughters of mothers, Laumeier hosts its annual
Art Fair on Mothers Day Weekend (Friday, May 8, through Sunday, May 10) to make it both fun and easier to get Mom something shell actually want. On Friday Laumeier celebrates opening night with music and a fine wine tasting from 6 to 9 p.m. (unlimited wine tasting for $12, in addition to the $5 to $8 admission fee). On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., you can browse 150 artists and juried students works in sculpture, clay, painting, mixed media, printmaking/drawing, new media, jewelry, photography, fiber, glass and wood. Listless and distracted children can get their hands dirty at the Creation Location, which has participatory demonstrations in both visual and performance arts.
