Doggie Dip

Oh, to live the life of Dr. Barkapotomus! The Night & Day dog gets a tummy scratch every 100 words or so — that adds up to quite a lot of pets per day! — and he only dines on the finest, most wholesome chow. This weekend, in addition to his usual pampering, he'll be vacationing at a five-star resort: the Maplewood Family Aquatic Center (7550 Lohmeyer Avenue). Oh, sure, for us humans this pool is really just a lovely place to swim. But for Dr. Barka, who's not usually invited to such facilities, the municipal aquatic center is a spa beyond all others. All weekend long at the sixth annual Maplewood Dog Swim, he'll doggie paddle around and soak up the soothing, relaxing powers of the swimming pool. The swim happens from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (September 11 through 13). Admission costs $10 per dog (and two adults) per day, and a three-day pass costs $25; proceeds benefit the Maplewood Dog Park (a.k.a., Dr. Barka's topnotch fitness center). Learn more about the rules of the swim by calling 314-645-8743.
