For several years now, the fourth and final stage of the Gateway Cup has been held on the streets of University City; this year the fourth stage moves downtown. In its entire existence (two years plus this one), the Tour of Missouri has never held its final stage anywhere except downtown St. Louis; this year, the ToM kicks off downtown. As if a double switcheroo isn't noteworthy enough, those who are paying attention realize that the city now hosts two different cycling races on the same day. The Gateway Cup course is a roughly one-mile square circuit that runs from the Old Courthouse (11 North Fourth Street) to Tenth Street on the long sides and from Market to Clark on the short ends. The first race begins at 7 a.m.; there are five heats total, with a kids' sprint tagged on the end. The Tour of Missouri begins at 2 p.m., and the course will be a spectator-friendly one routed through various neighborhoods. Spectating is free, so head downtown and make a bikey day of it.
