Down Goes the Champ

Aug 4, 2010 at 4:00 am
It's been twenty years since a tight-knit group of Catholic boys from Scranton, Pennsylvania, won the state basketball championship, and the years have not been as kind to the champs as one might hope. Oh, George is now mayor, but he's up for reelection, and his campaign is faltering; Phil's a rich businessman, thanks to his relationship with George, but there may be something funny going on there; James is the unhappy principal of the local junior high school, and his brother Tom is an unsuccessful writer but a successful drunk. They gather at the house of their spiritual guide and coach to commemorate their shared anniversary and relive the magic but soon discover if you reexamine your glory days with the benefit of adult eyes, you'll see that life wasn't as perfect and rosy as you've convinced yourself it was.
