After he produced Nirvana's triple-diamond long player Nevermind, every fuzzy-faced, flannel-fatigued grunge band wanted to book studio time with producer/drummer Butch Vig. Suffering from flannel fatigue of his own, Vig enlisted Scottish singer Shirley Manson to join his new band, Garbage, and together they carved a path away from the Seattle sound subgenre. Unsurprisingly, Garbage's debut album was a smash hit, but in a less expected turn, the band's lyrics and its frontwoman Shirley Manson have been embraced by the gay and lesbian community for their message of inclusiveness and opposition to the mainstream. It's that legacy that is celebrated tonight at Version 2.1: A Drag Tribute to Garbage's Version 2.0. Drag performers Siren, Rydyr, Princess DiAnal, Jenna Cydal and Sushii Pink recreate Garbage's sophomore album Version 2.0 live onstage. Organizers are also promising Garbage collectibles, themed drink specials and an after-show dance party with DJ Charlie Buttons. The show takes place at 11 p.m. at Attitudes (4100 Manchester Avenue; 314-534-0044), and admission is $10 for those ages 18 to 20 and free for fans 21 and older.
