In music-speak, “fret buzz“ is an undesirable, unintentional drone that occurs when a string vibrates on frets higher than the note being played. The term is taking on a whole new meaning this week as the
All Frets Convention comes to the Renaissance Grand Hotel (800 Washington Avenue) Wednesday through Saturday. Be their bag the banjo, guitar, mandolin or ukulele, acoustic-stringed-instrument enthusiasts have plenty of reasons to be buzzing. The frets fest guarantees a finger-pickin' good time with workshops, vendor exhibits and many spontaneous jam sessions. The convention begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday and the opening night concludes with a riverboat cruise on the mighty Mississippi. Concerts will be held at the Renaissance Grand Hotel Ballroom on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. For an exhaustive list of activities and accompanying registration fees, visit
