Early Evening of the Locust

'Tis the season for outdoor confabbing — trust us on this. Our weekly staff meetings have moved from the dankness of the RFT conference room (now with more moss!) to the top of the Tivoli marquee (accessible through an easily opened office window), and attendance has never been higher.

But there's no need to return indoors when the staff meeting's over. Head downtown to Locust Street (between 11th Street and Tucker Boulevard) to enjoy LAFF — The Locust Avenue Film Festival. It's a free outdoor party for the sake of having an outdoor party, with a long, cocktail-fueled happy hour (from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.), live music by Sky West Trio and a fashion show featuring garments from city-based stores such as Mezzanine, Level One and Circles. Oh, and don't forget about the films (hence the first "F" in that acronym): You get to enjoy a selection of locally produced short films, followed by a screening of cult-musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch on a twenty-foot screen, courtesy of the Webster Film Series. Yes, a cutting-edge musical about a frustrated German transsexual is an interesting choice for an outdoor party hosted by Downtown St. Louis — but downtown St. Louis is getting to be a pretty interesting place again, innit? Call 314-241-9990 for information.
