Get out and get walking

Jun 25, 2008 at 4:00 am
Throughout the winter months, you patiently awaited spring's arrival. You had great visions of spending entire days out of doors, just walking, hiking and breathing fresh air. And then our spring was totally rained out. But you can't just hole up in the air conditioning and bide your time until fall — you need nature now! No more excuses! The St. Louis chapter of the North American Butterfly Association (314-963-7750 or www.naba.org) would like to help motivate you with its Butterfly Walk and Count. Not only will this event get you outside, it will also get you reflecting on the delicate beauty of our fluttering friends. How many butterflies will you spot? None, if you don't leave the house! So go and meet up with the association's members at 10 a.m. at the visitors center parking lot of Busch Memorial Conservation Area (2360 Highway D, St. Charles). Walking and counting will cost you nothing, but bring along plenty of water and some insect repellant and sunscreen for that pasty skin.
