Feel the Fear

You've seen The Shining so many times that Jack Nicholson and his "Here's Johnny" routine aren't frightening in the slightest. And when Michael Myers is, in fact, not dead in the yard at the end of Halloween, you can't stifle the yawns, and you certainly don't mind when Regan's head spins around in The Exorcist. You're just too familiar with these films to care anymore. To reinvigorate the healthy sense of fear you once had, and just in time for the Halloween season, you need to switch things up a bit -- you need to see some live scary action. So head to the Historic Miner's Theatre (204 West Main Street, Collinsville, Illinois) for The Exorcist stage production. At 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (October 16 through 30; there's also a midnight Halloween show), expect to be terrified by the possessed child's devilish ways -- and be aware that you'll be watching the production in what is very likely a haunted structure, so good luck with all of that. Tickets to have your pants scared off cost $10; learn more at www.historicminersinstitute.org.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 23. Continues through Oct. 31, 2009
