The written word has played a central role in Jewish faith and culture — you've heard of that little book called the Torah, yes? It's fitting, then, that the St. Louis Jewish Book Festival, celebrating its 30th birthday this year, honors this heritage by inviting authors to speak on Jewish spirituality, history and culture throughout the fest (from Sunday, November 2, through Wednesday, November 12; with bonus programs on Monday and Tuesday, November 17 and 18). Lawyer, former Cincinnati mayor, author of Ringmaster and beloved talk-show host Jerry Springer offers the keynote address at 5:30 p.m. on the opening Sunday. Tickets for Springer's talk are $35, but the $60 series ticket allows entrance to this and all events. Other featured speakers include noted sexpert Dr. Ruth Westheimer (Friday, November 7) and Sex and the City's Evan Handler (Wednesday, November 12). Most events take place at the Jewish Community Center (2 Millstone Campus Drive, Creve Coeur); for a full list of programs and prices, visit www.stljewishbookfestival.org, and call 314-442-3299 for ticket information.
