Fire It Up

Life is complicated but autumn in St. Louis isn't. It's the one season in the year during which pretty much everything goes nearly perfectly: no tornadoes; no lethal heatwaves; no icy, treacherous road surfaces. And the local pro baseball team is usually competing in the World Series. If fall had a billboard advertising it, the copy would read, "Autumn -- It's All Good." So kick your pleasant season-specific rituals up a good notch or two by attending the Fall Fire Festival. The refreshingly uncomplicated, family-leaning event takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Green Center (8025 Blackberry Avenue, University City; 314-725-8314 or www.thegreencenter.org). The entertainment on tap includes fire performers, jugglers, hoopers, an art exhibit and storytellers; there'll also be a bonfire lit and food and beverages will be available. Tickets are $5 to $10 by advance purchase or $15 at the door.
