Carmon Colangelo's prints are woozy with memory, drunk with depth. Taking his inspiration from everywhere — history, travel, even advertising — his art is washed in the deep jewel tones of the Old Masters and informed by new techniques and popular icons. These multilayered and multitextured pieces have made this artist one of the nation's leading printmakers. Colangelo's artistic accomplishments are even more impressive considering his "day job" as dean of Washington University's new Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts. But tonight, he takes time off to open the fall season at the Bruno David Gallery (3721 Washington Boulevard; www.brunodavidgallery.com or 314-531-3030), which is exhibiting Configured/Disfigured, a selection of Colangelo's recent prints and works on paper. The opening reception is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, September 8, and the works remain on display until Saturday, October 7.
