Free Wheelin'

Four years ago the U.S. was suffering through higher gas prices and uncertainty about our oil-producing allies in the Mid East. Today, well, you can just cut and paste that previous sentence. What's changed is that back in 2008, a few score and seven people showed up to ride bikes skyclad through the city to protest America's oil dependency; last year, an estimated 500 riders showed up for the World Naked Bike Ride St. Louis. This is change we can believe in. The WBNR returns tonight for another whip around the city, and once again you're all invited to take a chance and take off your pants before riding. Pre-ride festivities begin at 7 p.m., and include body painting, live music and lots of positive reinforcement to psyche up the timid; note that nudity is not required, but you are encouraged to go as bare as you dare. Riders depart from the parking lot at Hartford Street and Arkansas Avenue at 9 p.m., and then follow a ten-mile route through the city before ending up in the Grove. The after-party takes place at both HandleBar and Atomic Cowboy. Participation is free, but stash some money somewhere on your person (maybe in your helmet?) for drinks and snacks.
