Friends Come in All Sizes

It's one thing to have wanderlust, to yearn to live a little, be a gypsy, get around and pick your feet up off the ground (to paraphrase a very famous songwriter we hope won't sue us); it's another thing to have that itch and be a mere snail. But the minuscule snail in author Julia Donaldson's imagination hitches a berth on the tail of a humpback whale, and the pair cruise off to see the world. Donaldson's much-loved children's book The Snail and the Whale (illustrated by Axel Scheffler) tells the adventure story of this unlikely traveling duo; now the book has been adapted into a kid-friendly theatrical show by a company called Tall Stories. You and your young charges can see it at 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday and at 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday (March 22 and 23) at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-725-6555 or Tickets are $16 to $20.
Sat., March 22, 2 & 5 p.m.; Sun., March 23, 1 & 4 p.m., 2014
