Get Your Greek On

Some people think of this long weekend as the marker of the unofficial start of summer, but we like to think, more specifically, that trays and trays of baklava signify the beginning of the best season. To join us in ushering in long days and warm weather, and to have some sweet, sweet times, head to the St. Louis County Greek Fest, hosted by Assumption Greek Orthodox Church (1755 Des Peres Road, Town & Country). From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday (May 23 through 26), you can feel the summery vibes start to wash over you with each honeyed bite of baklava. Of course, there will be other eats at the fest, too -- tender lamb shanks, comforting pastitsio, meaty gyros, spinachy spanikopita and more -- plus, there will be live Greek music and dancing, church tours and shopping opportunities at the market. Admission to the annual festival is free, but food will cost you; for more information and parking details, visit www.stlouisgreekfest.com.
