Kiss the frog, he turns into a prince. Wish on a star, and turn into a real boy. The typical fairy-tale message is that happily ever after is only possible for those who've changed who they are. Ogre-with-an-attitude Shrek's story upends this lesson by showing that we need to love ourselves — flaws and all — to really come out on top. Shrek the Musical, based on the first film in the Shrek series, brings him and all his friends to the stage in a feel-good show only an ogre could resist. Performances run 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (September 11 through September 26) at the Fox Theatre (527
North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.fabulousfox.com). Tickets are $26 to $68.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 14. Continues through Sept. 26, 2010
