If you've ever eaten at Blueberry Hill, you've no doubt noticed the photos of dart champions that stretch back to the '70s. It's time for another pair of photos to go in that gallery, as this weekend marks the 42nd installment of the Blueberry Hill Open Dart Tournament. If you don't play, you may not realize the strategy involved in the final moments of a game of 501 or 301. The object is to count backward from the target number -- for example, 501 -- to zero by scoring the maximum with the least amount of darts, and you have to end at zero exactly to win; any darts that drop your score to negative numbers don't count. The best you can hope for is a nine-dart finish to your game, which deserves a round of applause and a free drink. You'll see some of the region's best players at Blueberry Hill, because there are $10,000 in prizes at stake. Rounds start at 7 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday (May 9 through 11) at Blueberry Hill (6504 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-727-4444 or www.blueberryhill.com). Admission is free for spectators and $10 to $45 for players, depending on the game. Sunday features both the men's and women's 301 singles, as well as the open doubles round for 501.
