You might think that Americans wrote the book on line-dancing, but you would be so very wrong. And thank goodness! Those country songs made for that style of dancing here are devoid of any distinguishable melodies — yawn! Fortunately, those of us who love to group dance have another option that's time-tested and more sonically pleasing (or interesting, at the very least): We can devote our whole weekend to learning some line dances from northern Greece. The International Folk Dance Association of University City brings Kyriakos Moisidis to town, and he's offering a variety of workshops to help us with this task, beginning with the Basics of Greek Dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday, February 8. Participation costs $10, and the class is held at University United Methodist Church (6901 Washington Avenue, University City). We don't need to bring partners, and we certainly don't need to know what we're doing for this first session — the advanced students have their own class on Saturday, February 9, after which there's a dinner and dance party (from 5:30 to 10:45 p.m.) where we can all show off our skills!
