Hard (Fought) Scrabble

Feeling wordy?

Scrabble players are different. Unlike, say Monopoly players, they don't care about the money; Scrabblers care deeply about the words of our language — well, words and points. Points are very important. But simply playing for points and self-satisfaction all the time can become somewhat anticlimactic. Even hardcore Scrabble devotees can admit that playing for prizes on occasion is exciting, especially when said prizes reward folks for their mad word skills. To experience such a thrill, head to the Gallery at Chesterfield Arts (444 Chesterfield Center; www.chesterfieldarts.org) for Scrabble Mania. This fundraiser for the Chesterfield Writers Guild begins at 7 p.m., and admission costs $15 for an individual or $40 for a four-person team. For that price you'll get to word it up, challenge other people's plays and have a chance at some of those aforementioned prizes. Plus, there will be a cash bar and quick word games of chance. To sign up, call 636-519-1955.
