Hares Care

The rabbit portrays many characters in literature — from the trickster hare to the colonizing bunny — but rabbits aren't often the focus of visual art. However, if you head over to the Philip Slein Gallery (1319 Washington Avenue; 314-621-4634 or www.philipsleingallery.com), you'll see that our long-eared friends and other animals are all over the walls, thanks to New York painter Catherine Howe's exhibit Live Animals. In this show, Howe's creatures possess a certain sweet innocence, and the works have a soft quality to them, just like many of the subjects themselves. Live Animals (along with Jeannie and Other Dreamies, Jamie Adams' show) remains up through Saturday, February 24; the gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Feb. 1. Continues through Feb. 24
