Haunt-Ed 101

Though some classrooms have put the kibosh on Halloween celebrations out of respect for parents who deem the holiday's spooky imagery offensive, school is still plenty scary without the ghouls and goblins. From the first-day jitters to the high-ridin' gym shorts, school is a hotbed of childhood trauma and angst. Tonight at 8 p.m. the Washington University Libraries take you back to those terror-filled afternoons when a lazy-eyed, hunchbacked substitute teacher haunted the darkened classroom with a hangover and a super-8 projector loaded up with an unending parade of educational films. Rawstock: Halloween Edition screens to screams at Melt (2712 Cherokee Street; www.facebook.com/meltoncherokee) with reel after reel of the most disturbing educational films ever to flicker across a pull-down projection screen. Admission is free, and costumes are strongly encouraged.
