He Has His Father's Ears

It's difficult to believe that the little elephant who captured our hearts -- and whose birth we watched about a thousand times on that video display near the old elephant enclosure -- is nineteen years old today. That little fuzzy-headed bundle of saggy skin has grown into a strapping young tusker, and he has more than a few kids of his own now. Still, you're never too old to gather with friends on your birthday and maul a cake with your trunk (we're all guilty of that, right fellas?). Raja celebrates his birthday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the River's Edge in the Saint Louis Zoo (314-781-0900 or www.stlzoo.org), weather permitting. Admission is free, and you don't need to bring anything, either -- just show up, sing him the song and wish him well for the next year.
