The St. Louis metro is a populous, sprawling place, but fortunately it's not so big that we don't have lots of green space. This means we also have our share of wildlife among us. We've heard of one guy who lives in the heart of south city and has regular visits from possums and raccoons on his back deck; we know this person well because he's the bloke typing these words. If you're fascinated by the nonhuman life forms we share our town with and would like to learn more about efforts to conserve and rescue area fauna, as well as animals and birds from more far-flung locales, get to the Saint Louis Science Center (5050 Oakland Avenue; 314-289-4400 or www.slsc.org) today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Wild Saturday. The companion program to the science center's ongoing Wildlife Rescue exhibition features local animal-rescue groups discussing their individual efforts to aid animals of all stripes (and feathers and scales). This week's installment features representatives of the Gateway Parrot Club, St. Louis Avian Rescue and Friends of the Eternal Children's Rainforest. Some actual live critters will be there, too, as is only proper — they're the real stars after all. Admission to Wild Saturday is free and open to the public.
