There is no better way to learn about history than with a drink in hand. A little spirited lubrication helps those mental gears get whirling, and it also loosens your tongue so you're more liable to ask questions. And when the topic is the history of St. Louis, beer is definitely on the curriculum. The Missouri History Museum's Young Friends bring the matter to a nice, foamy head with History on Tap: Soulard. This casual and informative program features both a field trip and fieldwork; it begins at the Missouri History Museum Library & Research Center (225 South Skinker Boulevard) with a brief discussion on the history of the Soulard neighborhood. Then Michael Allen leads a bus tour of the neighborhood, during which Allen will share his detailed knowledge of the neighborhood's past, with stops at local pubs to experience its present.
