Homes for the Holidays

It's a facet of our city quickly observed (and appreciated) by visitors, but often taken for granted by natives. What's "it"? Our architecture. In short, our built heritage here in St. Louis is considered one of the finest in the whole country; it's best to value it more. Today from 3 to 8 p.m. you can do just that, on the St. Louis Holiday Historic House Tour. The tour is composed of stops at six of St. Louis' most distinguished homes and buildings: the Eugene Field House; the Campbell House Museum (1508 Locust Street); the Chatillon-DeMenil House; the Old Courthouse; and, on the grounds of the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Tower Grove House and the Museum Building. Each tour stop will feature light holiday refreshments and performances of scenes from Dickens' A Christmas Carol. You can take the tour the guided way, on chartered buses that will shuttle you from destination to destination, or the self-guided way. Tickets are $20 to $40; call 314-421-0325 or visit www.campbellhousemuseum.org to purchase them.
