Huckleberry Grin

As anyone who has ever backpacked through Europe can attest, hostels are rather unique places to lay your head. From the eccentric characters often found at these affordable lodging spots to the close quarters you share with these strangers (emphasis on "strange"), it's difficult to leave a hostel without a good story. That will also be the case for those who spend just a few hours at the Huckleberry Finn Youth Hostel, located right here in St. Louis (at 1908 South 12th Street). Huckleberry Hostel, the OnSite Theatre Company's next production, is held at the hostel, and this farce was created by Dan Rubin specifically with the space in mind. The play features plenty of hostel-type characters and all kinds of secrets, plus a bit of an imaginative presentation: When theatergoers arrive at the lodge, they will be assigned to one of two rooms as if they were actual overnight guests. Actors in the play will move back and forth between these spaces, always performing and always providing a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience. At intermission the audience groups will swap rooms, enabling them to get the other side of the story. Tickets to Huckleberry Hostel cost $20 and are available at www.onsitetheatre.org. The play is presented at 7 and 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday (June 4 through 19).
