Historically, Double Helix TV (St. Louis's public, community-access cable-TV channel) hasn't been as well known as its sister radio station, KDHX (88.1 FM). Maybe that's because dhTV is only available to those with cable, it's only on from noon till midnight, and sometimes the programming is...unique. For the lucky few who know of the station's existence and can see it, dhTV may be synonymous with two of its early programming staples: local wrestling and Pete Parisi's World Wide Live, which (somewhat) misrepresent the new dhTV. The channel now features shows ranging from specialized music-video programs, such as Joe Millitzer's AudioVideo, to the environmentally-concerned Green Time, to the local-theater review show Two on the Aisle (in addition to the local wrestling programming).

Beverly Hacker, general manager of dhTV, wants the misperception to change. The group scored a publicity coup by producing promos (with the dhTV logo prominently featured) for Cinema St. Louis that were seen before every movie in this year's St. Louis International Film Festival, increasing the station's visibility. In another profile-raising maneuver, the dhTV offices moved to bigger digs in the Euclid Plaza building (where they've been located for the past twelve years), with amenities such as a new studio, digital-editing suites and a training area for aspiring filmmakers. "We're looking for people who want to produce television," Hacker says, mentioning new programs like Coming Up Shorts and City Visions, both of which are perfect forums for new filmmakers looking to get their names out.

To celebrate the short-but-momentous move, dhTV is throwing a little party. Whether you are a filmmaker looking to network, a viewer looking for TV about reality instead of reality TV, or just a Central West End resident who never even knew the place existed, dhTV wants you to come down, meet the staff and enjoy tours, live entertainment and refreshments -- and to check out the "monkey-themed" room.
