It's A Dance-Off

During the holidays, many worthy events compete for your time, but no more so than this weekend, when there are not one but two stagings of The Nutcracker. You know the story about how a nutcracker comes to life and leads young Clara on a world tour where peoples from faraway lands perform their native dances. And you know Tchaikovsky's beautiful score. So which production of the ballet will you choose this weekend? You've got Saint Louis Ballet's version at the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; $15 to $45), and then there's Missouri Ballet Theatre's take at the Edison Theatre on the campus of Washington University (6445 Forsyth Boulevard; $20 to $63). Both open on Friday, December 16, and are sure to be lovely, and your holiday season will be complete as long as you attend one – or both. The Saint Louis Ballet also performs its Nutcracker on Saturday and Sunday and again Wednesday through (December 17 to 23; www.touhill.org). Missouri Ballet Theatre's Nutcracker continues on Saturday and Sunday (December 17 and 18) as well, with an additional performance on Tuesday, December 20 (www.missouriballettheatre.com).
