It's Cos, Of Course

Before Bill Cosby became one of the legends of American comedy, he failed the tenth grade, joined the Navy and won a track and field scholarship from Temple University. Cosby then went on to moonlight as a bartender in his hometown of Philadelphia while he was finishing his degree, where he entertained patrons with his unique take on life. As his jokes got better, so did his tips, and that catalyst began his standup career. While he'll always be known as Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable -- famous for colorful sweaters and sneaking sodas and subs while his TV wife Phylicia Rashad wasn't looking -- he's first and foremost a stand-up comic. He brings his new set, Bill Cosby: Far From Finished, to the ballroom of the Four Season Hotel (999 North Second Street; 314-881-7777 or www.lumiereplace.com) for shows at 6 and 8:30 p.m. tonight. Tickets are $30 to $50.
