Jersey County Victorian Festival

So come on, admit it -- ever since you bought that hoop skirt for the Civil War play back in high school, you've been dying to break it out again, haven't you? Wear it all Labor Day Weekend during the annual Jersey County Victorian Festival. Take in a full range of Victorian-appropriate activities such as a Civil War battle re-enactment, an artillery demonstration and the recreation of a historically-accurate duel. There are also more sedate demonstrions of blacksmithing, woodcarving and rope-making. Practice your two-step while the Chris Talley Bluegrass Band performs, take a tour of Confederate Army Lt. Colonel William Fulkerson's mansion, and pay homage to President and Mrs. Lincoln during a narration of the Gettysburg Address. The Jersey County Victorian Festival takes place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Monday (August 31 through September 2) at the Hazel Dell Farm (1510 North State Street, Jerseyville, Illinois; 618-498-5590 or www.greatriverroad.com). Admission is $10 for adults, and free for kids twelve and younger.
