"Geeks," to use the common term, are ridiculed for their supposedly uncool habits and strange hobbies. Collecting comic books, enjoying science fiction, having a more than keen interest in anime — partaking in any one of those social transgressions is enough to have you forever branded a geek. And what a tragedy that would be. You have to have fun, you have to read, you have to argue about which
Final Fantasy is the best, you have to pal around with interesting people — who'd wanna do that for the rest of their lives? Or more immediately, all weekend long?
Kawa Kon, the St. Louis Anime Convention, tsunamis into the Crowne Plaza Clayton (7750 Carondelet Avenue, Clayton;
www.kawakon.com) from noon to 2 a.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (February 13 through 15), and it's going to be full of all things geekly. In addition to the dealers' room (games, books, DVDs and more), the Marshmallow Mechs party (make mechs from marshmallows, man) and the live performances by the Spoony Bards (specializing in video-game music and other delights), you'll get to hang out with fun-loving geeks for three days. Single day admission is $20, and a full weekend pass costs $40.
