Mack the Knife is the sort of man women can't resist. He's the charismatic crime lord of Victorian London, a stone-cold killer and a philanderer — what's not to love? He may be the prince of the underground, but can even Mack survive several scorned women, angry in-laws and the betrayal of his good friend Tiger Brown, the chief of police? Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's The Threepenny Opera is a scathing commentary on capitalism and human nature, as well as a sendup of the happy ending common to musicals. The Webster Conservatory of Theatre Arts presents The Threepenny Opera at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (November 17 through 21) in the Browning Theatre at the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road; 314-968-7128).
