Let's Go to the Dogs

Human beings may be increasingly turning to the Internet for socialization, but dogs prefer to interact the old-fashioned way: nose-to-nose, bonding over a particularly good chew toy or an exhilarating romp through the neighborhood. That's why you don't see any Twitter posts along the lines of "Licked own butt, stared down rabbit on other side of window #dogthoughts." No, our four-legged companions would rather be where the real action is — at the APA of Missouri's 20th Annual Canine Carnival. Bring your fun-loving pooch to Tilles Park (9551 Litzinger Road, Ladue) for a day of games, contests and treats galore. This day o' the dog kicks off at 11 a.m. with an opening ceremony to crown the Canine King and Queen. After their coronation, the newly crowned doggy royalty will lead the Pooch Parade (along with Jennifer Blome from KSDK-TV (Channel 5), who loves dogs and regularly reports on animal-rights issues). The Purina Incredible Dog Team show takes the stage at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., and games and contests (such as "Best Costume" and "Best Barker/Singer") comprise the rest of the day's activities. Be sure to stop by the main stage at noon and 1:30 p.m., when APA adoptable dogs will be featured. You may just take home an Incredible Dog of your own — and become an Incredible Human for an animal in need. For more information, visit www.apamo.org or call 314-645-4610. Admission to the Canine Carnival is free, and you can buy tickets for games while at the event.
