The jazz is free tonight

It's no secret that the Grove neighborhood, that hip stretch of Manchester Avenue between South Kingshighway Boulevard and South Vandeventer Avenue, has become one of this city's most potent melting pots. Amid the gay bars, ethnic restaurants and late-night watering holes sits the Gramophone (4243 Manchester Avenue; www.thegramophonelive.com or 314-531-5700). The club opened earlier this year with the mission of hosting a bevy of musical styles from funk to folk, and the drink menu is one of the most inventive in town. As if those cocktails aren't reason enough to go, each Tuesday the good people at Jazz St. Louis host an evening of jazz from St. Louis and elsewhere, and this week local singer Trish Turek will tear through a set of vocal standards and pop chestnuts. The free show begins at 9 p.m.
