Chris Smentkowski, transplanter of brains and wreaker of tinnitus, surfaces with one of his infrequent art shows at 6 p.m. tonight at Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts (3151 Cherokee Street; www.fortgondo.com). Smentkowski's current fixation on 20th-century Polish art and his love of hidden observers come together in an eructation of primitive ceramics, abstract oil paintings of fictional landscapes and a feedback/drone installation, all of which are collectively called Transcendental Voyeurism. Is this a sneak peek into the mind of one of St. Louis' longstanding underground denizens, or is it an elaborate scheme by the artist to observe people as they observe his observations? Yeah, think about it. Admission to this evening's experiment is free.
