Love and Sweetness

Trumps ugliness any day

It's amazing that Cinderella's tale is still so relatable today. She suffered under an oppressive stepparent, she felt (rightly so) that her siblings were treated better than she was, and she knew that indescribable magic of young love — all things familiar to many young people nowadays. (Though Cinderella also was able to walk in glass slippers, a feat that seems impossible today, and she did have a fairy godmother — lucky her.) Anyway, because her story is so timeless and recognizable, it makes for a lovely ballet concert. This weekend, Alexandra Ballet brings the magic of Cinderella to the stage of the Touhill Performing Arts Center on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road). Performances happen at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday (March 7 and 8). Tickets cost $10 to $30 (at 314-516-4949 or www.touhill.org) — and note that this would be a nice introduction to the ballet for the kiddos.
